At Whiskeyjack Collies, we believe that the collie should epitomize form and function temperament and type. A broader way of saying that would be, is that a collie should, in it’s overall physical makeup, please the eye, have the ability to carry out the purpose for which the breed was developed with ease and excellence, and have a temperament which allows it to work well in the field with diverse animals and partnerships, as well as be able to meet the very different challenges of “family” life. An all purpose dog.
Collies are bright, quick to learn and sensitive. They do not like to be told to do the same task over and over. They will quickly let their family know that they can think independently. They feel it is very undignified to yell or be yelled at and will pull out all the stops for people who show them respect. Collies are great lovers, listeners, playmates, workers, teachers,philosophers and friends. They are much more than mankind’s equal.
People who are lucky enough to be owned by a collie or more than one collie are a very special breed. They don’t always start out that way, but there is something about being owned by a collie that changes them. Before you know it the collie has it’s own special bed, collar, space on the couch, tv channel and special buddies. It’s human starts looking for collie stuff to decorate the walls and chairs. They even start getting hairy like their dog!! (ask my husband).
…hmmmm…. if all this has not scared you off, then there is grooming, getting taken for walks, getting goosed, learning the ins and outs of herding, and cleaning the nose prints off your windows and your face. That’s real life if you have a collie.
They love you forever in spite of you being human and forgive you your mistakes, because after all you are very limited. Your sense of smell sucks, you walk on your hind legs and can never keep up.

Two or three times a year depending on how my girls are doing we are blessed at Whiskeyjack with collie babies. We believe in providing a healthy, “in the home" environment for our babies. We ensure that they have plenty of time with their mentors and their people as they have plenty to learn in the dog realm and the people realm.
It is always possible to view the dam and relatives. We do have a favored sire who resides here but sometimes we take our girls out to visit other attractive fellas. It’s good for the bloodline!
Whiskeyjack provides ongoing support to puppy families. That comes in the form of information, resource referral, hands on demonstration, and directing to agencies that are useful to Collie people.
At present Whiskeyjack collies used in our breeding program are either Champions in the conformation ring or in pursuit of their championship. Some of our Collies are being introduced to herding, with the goal that our Collies will be actively used in the venue they were bred for.
We have both coat types, smooth and rough. We breed for all colors where ever possible.
